Chief Martins Agbo’s Relief Items Benefit Area Youth and Widows

Women especially widows and the youth in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria, have every reason to be thankful to God during the just concluded 2020 Yuletide and 2021 New Year festivity as providence smiled on them through one of their sons, Hon Martins Agbo, also known as Global, the Deputy Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council.

The good tidings started with a Football Tournament tagged “Gburugburu Unity Cup” for the people of Idodo Court Area, sponsored by Chief Martins Agbo.

In an exclusive chat with GMTNews correspondent during the events, the philanthropist and Managing Director of M. N. Global Ltd, who admonished the youth to eschew all vices and embrace the virtues of old, further stated that positive self-development is a panacea to the ills of the society.

He said the driving force in embarking on the humanitarian gestures was to thank God for His grace on him and to show his appreciation for the privileged honor done him by the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to make it possible for him to become the Deputy Chairman of his Local Government Council, Nkanu East.

Furthermore, he added that it was to appreciate and honor his late mother, Nnokar’Igwe, who died 34 years ago, on January 4, 1986, when he was still very tender, noting that God’s favor, his father, Chief…, care of other women and dint of determination and hard work on his part, brought him to his current status in life. 

“God rewards every genuine effort of man, I encourage our young men and women to always strive to improve on themselves so as to become good citizens that make the society better…”

“I give God all the glory because, without Him, I would be nothing, having lost my mother in 1986 when I was very small and didn’t know anything. God, women like them and my father, brought me to where I am today”.

He also paid a glowing tribute to his immediate boss, Engr. Uche Nwobodo, Nkanu East Local Government Council Chairman.

Women especially widow numbering over 250 received food items including bags of rice and wrapper each.

“In honor of my late mother, I started palliatives distribution to widows and the less privileged women in 2020, so this is the second edition and it will now become an annual event, and we shall improve as the years get by”.

Hon. Agbo who himself was an active footballer in Ubahu while growing up, sponsored the football tournament in which the 1st position Gold trophy was lifted by the Owo team, Silver was carted away by Ubahu, while in 3rd place (Bronze) was won by Amankanu.

The best player award of the tournament went to Chijioke MBA, the best goaltender was Ndubuisi Nnaji, while the prize for the highest goal scorer went to Pius Chidera.

Motorcycles empowerment which was distributed to beneficiaries through a raffle draw were won by Emmanuel Ani, Emeka Ogbodo, Samuel Amobi Chukwu, and Onyedịkachukwu Nnamani of Amechi-Idodo, Amankanu, Ubahu, and Owo respectively.

In their separate remarks, HRH Igwe Hyacinth Edeani of Ohani Amechi-Idodo, Rt. Hon. Chukwunonso Egbo, Councilor for Owo Ward, and Dr. Mgbenkemdi, an ESUT lecturer, thanked Chief Martins Agbo for his magnanimity, being the first elected official from the area to extend such philanthropy to the ordinary people, and being humble.

The finals of the football tournament and distribution of palliative items which held simultaneously the same day were attended by important personalities including Chief Ikechukwu Ubagu, former Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council, Stanley Okeke, former Chairman of Awgu Local Government Council, Chief Nnamdi Nwafor, PDP Enugu East zonal Chairman, Rt. Hon Donatus Onovo, Councilor representing Amechi-Idodo/Oruku-Umuode Ward, HRH Igwe Benneth Ikenna of Amankanu among many others.
